On the night of April 24, 2025 (and into the early hours of the 25th), ten miracle puppies were born just outside Atlanta. Their mom, Sadie, had recently been rescued from a high-kill shelter by our friends — who had no idea she was pregnant. Neither did the shelter.
It wasn’t until they brought her in to be spayed that the vet made the surprise discovery. The vet offered to go through with the procedure anyway, but our friends said no. And thank goodness — because one of those puppies, a black squirmy one with one electric-blue eye and an oversized personality from the start, would grow up to become Trevor.
We officially met Trevor on June 21, when he was just eight weeks old. He weighed about five pounds, did surprisingly well on the six-hour car ride back to our Florida coast home, promptly tried to eat a flip-flop, destroyed the toy we brought him in under 10 minutes, and passed out upside-down before we got out of Georgia. A perfect start.
Is He a Lab? A Gremlin? Honestly, We Don’t Know Yet.
We think he’s part Lab — but beyond that? It’s a mystery.
Sadie (his mom) looks like a Lab mix, and the shelter guessed Lab-Husky. But as someone who’s raised multiple herding dogs and retrievers, I can tell you Trevor has major herding dog energy. His siblings all look wildly different — a few even have merle markings like Aussie puppies.
Trevor… is kind of his own thing. He was the only all-black puppy in the litter. Well, mostly black. He has a speckled white chest that screams herding dog to me.
We’ll be doing a DNA test soon, so if you love breed reveals and chaotic mutts, you’re going to want to stick around.
Life with a 14-Week-Old Hurricane
Trevor is clever. He’s been home in Florida for just six weeks, but he’s already keeping us on our toes.
Right now, we’re focused on training, socializing, and just surviving the puppy phase (counting down the days until that rabies shot so we can finally hit the beach!).
It’s been a wild ride already — and we’ve barely scratched the surface. It’s been years since either of us had a puppy, and documenting this chaos feels like the only way to keep up.
We still miss our old running buddy, Jojo, every single day. No dog replaces another, but Trevor is writing his own chapter — and we’re here for the whole story.
Why Trevor Matters (Besides Being Cute as Hell)
Before Trevor, there was Jojo — a rescue who became our soul dog. He ran with us, hiked with us, and made us believers in rescue dogs, active living, and the power of second (or fourth) chances.
Jojo battled cancer at the end, and his journey inspired our commitment to dog wellness, better nutrition, and giving back.
Trevor doesn’t replace Jojo — no dog could. But he’s helping us write the next chapter, and we want to make it count.
What to Expect from Trevor’s Corner of the Internet
This blog — and Trevor’s Instagram @thatdogtrevor — will share:
- Life with a rescue pup on Florida’s First Coast
- Puppy training wins, gear reviews, and milestone moments
- Health and wellness tips (from humans who’ve worked in the supplement industry)
- Updates on Trevor’s DNA test, vet visits, beach trips, and future running adventures
- And yes… bloopers, weird sleep positions, and plenty of sand in the fur
Trevor’s not perfect. We’re not perfect. But we believe in giving dogs their best life — with structure, sunshine, and belly rubs in bulk.
Thanks for following along. The journey’s just getting started.
